Getting work done
How do I get an estimate?
The quickest way is through your account. Add your car, tell us what it needs, and add photos or a short video so we can see what you are seeing. We reply in your account, ask if we need anything else, and send the estimate there, job by job. Create an account if you do not have one yet. You can also ask by message, by email or in person.
Is an estimate a fixed price?
An estimate prices the work each job is expected to take. Some problems only show once the work is under way, such as a part that is seized or too corroded to remove without replacing it, so the final bill can be higher. Before we do extra work like that, we tell you what we have found and what it adds, and you can tell us not to carry on.
How long is an estimate valid?
Until the "valid until" date shown on it, normally 14 days from the day we send it. After that it can no longer be accepted, but you can ask us for an updated one from your account.
Do I pay for a diagnosis?
Yes. Finding a fault takes time and equipment, so a diagnosis is charged whether or not you go ahead with a repair, whether or not the cause is found, and even if the fault does not show while we have the car. Once we know the cause, we send you a separate estimate for the repair.
How do I go ahead with the work?
Tick the jobs you want on the estimate in your account and accept them. You do not have to accept everything: you can go ahead with some jobs and leave the others. You can also tell us by message, email, phone or in person, and we record it for you.
Why do you ask for a deposit?
When the work needs parts ordering, we ask for a deposit when you accept it, and order the parts once it is paid. It covers our costs of ordering, receiving and returning the parts if the work does not go ahead. You can pay just the deposit, or pay for the work in full.
When does my car need to be with you?
Until the work is paid for in full, we need your car with us by the "Car needed by" date we give you once the parts have arrived. Pay for the work in full and there is no date: we keep the parts until the work is done, and you choose your drop-off day when it suits you.
How do I book my car in?
Once the parts are in, or straight away if none are needed, choose your drop-off day in your account. You can choose a booked day, when we set time aside for your car, or not urgent, when you drop it off any day we are open and it is worked on when the workshop has free time.
Can I drop my car off when you are closed?
Yes, by leaving it and posting the keys through our letterbox on the day you booked. The car and its keys are at your own risk until we take the keys from the letterbox, and you confirm that when you book.
What if you find something else wrong with my car?
We do not do anything you have not accepted. We send you an estimate for it in your account, and you decide whether to go ahead. If your car is already with us when you accept, we do it on the same visit where possible.
When do I collect my car?
We email and text you when it is ready, with the date to collect it by. After that date a storage charge applies for every day until it is collected, as our Terms and Conditions explain.
When and how do I pay for the work?
Payment is due when the work is finished, before we hand the car back. You can pay by card in your account, by card or in cash when you collect, or by bank transfer, which needs to have reached our account before we hand the car back. Anything you have already paid comes off your invoice.
Can I call the work off?
Yes, by telling us by message, email, through your account or by post. If parts have been ordered, we keep the deposit, and if a part cannot be returned or work has started, you pay for those as well. Our Terms and Conditions set out exactly what you pay.
Do you work on business and fleet vehicles?
Yes. A business account can have several people on it: owners and managers can accept estimates and pay, and employees can add vehicles, ask for prices and book vehicles in.
